What The Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Swim (21 to 22 April, 2012)

Michael Klim announced today that the Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Swim will return to MSAC this year from 12pm (midday) Saturday 21 April to 12pm Sunday 22 April, 2012.
Michael Klim said: “I am thrilled to be the Celebrity Ambassador for this event. This event is for people of all ages and abilities. Everyone can choose how long they swim for in their 24 hour team relay. I’m looking forward to having a swim with everyone on Saturday!”
Michael Klim will captain a celebrity team at the Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Swim. Celebrity team member names will be announced next week! One celebrity team member, Stephanie Hickey, Winter Olympian and Snow Boarding champion joined Michael at the launch and said “I plan to just doggy paddle up and down as I am not a great swimmer!”
Over 20 teams and up to 300 swimmers are expected to swim in relay for 24 hours to raise money for those living with MS. The fundraising target is $80,000.

The Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Swim has raised over $100,000 since it began in 2009.
The Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Squash event will also take place at that same time at MSAC. Now in its second year, this is a complementary event that also raises money for those living with MS. The 2012 fundraising target is $20,000. This event takes place once a year with the Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Swim.

The Melbourne 24 Hour Mega Swim is one of around 30 annual 24 Hour Mega Swims that take place across the country in regional, suburban and metro pools. The 24 Hour Mega Swim is one of the fastest growing community events in Australia. Over 4,000 people take part annually in regional, suburban and metro events. They are organised and run by local committees, with support from MS Australia.
Funds raised provide scholarships to people living with MS through MS Australia’s Go for Gold Scholarship program. They also provide direct and immediate support through Financial Assistance Programs.
